Airport City continues to grow: Groundbreaking ceremony for five state-of-the-art logistics properties by DLH in the Vienna Airport region

Yesterday marked the groundbreaking ceremony for the SkyLog Park of the logistics company DLH Austria. In the presence of Jochen Danninger, State Minister for Economic Affairs of Lower Austria; Thomas Ram, Mayor of Fischamend; Christian Vogt, Managing Director of DLH Austria; and Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG, the starting signal was given for a major real estate project. By the end of 2021, five flexible warehouses and industrial light halls—ideally suited for air freight logistics companies—will be built on a 45,000-㎡ site on the edge of the airport grounds and near Fischamend. Companies will benefit from the proximity to the airport and the highway leading to Eastern Europe. For the region around Fischamend, this project means additional economic value and jobs.

“Today’s groundbreaking ceremony by DLH heralds Lower Austria’s economic comeback following the COVID-19 crisis. I am very pleased that DLH has decided to invest in Lower Austria and will build a state-of-the-art logistics center here in the airport region. We are seeing a large number of investments currently being made throughout Lower Austria that are creating new jobs. Our Economic Agency alone has supported 39 projects in the first four months of this year, creating or securing over 600 jobs. At the same time, the current vaccination drive is the best economic stimulus. The faster large segments of the population are vaccinated, the faster the economy grows. We are currently on the right track here,” emphasizes Provincial Economic Affairs Minister Jochen Danninger.

“I am pleased that, despite the pandemic, companies are relocating here and investments are being made. The good cooperation with Vienna International Airport regarding business relocations is bearing fruit. I am hopeful that this positive collaboration will continue in the future. Due to its proximity to the airport and the nearby highway access, the location is ideally suited for DLH,” says Thomas Ram, Mayor of Fischamend.

“We are very pleased that we were able to acquire this property from Vienna International Airport. Given the excellent location and the modern, sustainable construction we have planned, we are firmly convinced of the concept’s success. This is evidenced by the fact that Swissport has already leased two warehouses,” notes Christian Vogt, Managing Director of DLH Austria.

“We are pleased that DLH is expanding its logistics operations in the airport region. Especially during the COVID-19 crisis, this is an important signal of growth that creates value and jobs. Here in the airport region, companies find optimal conditions for their business location, with growth opportunities, a comprehensive local supply and transportation infrastructure, and efficient connections to international markets thanks to the proximity to the airport and the highway,” explains Dr. Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.
