Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Maersk Logistics Campus in Bremerhaven

Last Friday, the groundbreaking ceremony marked the symbolic start of construction for the “Bremerhaven Logistics Campus” by Deutsche Logistik Holding (DLH). By the second quarter of 2024, a modern logistics facility with approximately 70,000 m² of floor space will be built in the fishing port for Maersk, one of the world’s leading logistics companies.

The new building will meet all the requirements of a modern and sustainable logistics facility. Among other features, the entire roof will be equipped with a photovoltaic system, enabling CO2-neutral operation without the use of fossil fuels in conjunction with a heat pump. The project aims to achieve *DGNB Gold certification. This certification evaluates a building’s entire life cycle in terms of sustainability: from planning and operation through to demolition.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Christoph Telker, Managing Director of DLH, emphasized: “The groundbreaking for the logistics campus is an important milestone for Bremerhaven’s development and significance in the logistics industry.” Felix Zilling, Managing Director of DLH, added: “The project addresses the growing demand for logistics space. At the same time, a new building allows us to offer maximum flexibility and accommodate individual requirements.”

“We are pleased that, with this state-of-the-art and highly sustainable logistics center, we will soon be able to offer our customers highly efficient end-to-end logistics solutions in our most important German import and export port,” says Jens-Ole Krenzien, Maersk Managing Director North Europe Continent. “The Bremerhaven Logistics Campus is a key cornerstone for Maersk in the expansion of our European warehouse network. It will provide greater flexibility in our customers’ supply chains by allowing them to continuously slow down, accelerate, or even reroute the flow of goods based on inventory levels and the latest demand forecasts. The goal is to make supply chains more resilient.”

“Maersk’s new location in Bremerhaven, with around 300 jobs, is an important contribution to the long-term strengthening of our region. We are very pleased about this strong commitment from one of our port’s most important partners, who, with this investment decision, underscores its ambitions for sustainable corporate development,” says Dr. Claudia Schilling, Senator for Science and Ports.

Of the 300 jobs to be created at the Bremerhaven Logistics Campus, around 200 will be in logistics and warehousing, and around 100 in office roles.
