DLH Develops Logistics Campus for Maersk in Bremerhaven
Bremerhaven, August 31, 2022. DLH Deutsche Logistik Holding is developing and constructing a new logistics facility spanning approximately 70,000 m² in the fishing port for AP Moller Maersk AS. The new building will meet all the requirements of a modern and sustainable logistics property. Among other features, the entire roof will be equipped with a photovoltaic system, enabling CO²-neutral operation. The project aims for DGNB Gold certification, as sustainability is a key priority for all participating companies. The facility is scheduled to be handed over to Maersk, ready for occupancy, in the second quarter of 2024.
Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping company, is thus expanding its operations in Bremerhaven. “Maersk is already our long-standing partner in container transport and the largest customer of the ports of Bremen. We are therefore very pleased that Maersk has chosen the Bremerhaven location and intends to further develop its logistics business from here,” says Dr. Claudia Schilling, Senator for Science and Ports.
Maersk will handle various customer operations at this location. Bram van der Plas, project manager at Maersk, says: “This location is very important for our future strategic direction. We look forward to working closely with DLH.”
Felix Zilling, Managing Director of DLH, adds: “This project is a significant sign of the importance of Bremerhaven as a logistics hub and for the logistics industry, particularly in light of the current tense global political and economic situation.”
“We appreciate the trust placed in us by all parties involved and will successfully realize this project through collaborative partnership. The establishment of this facility alone is already a forward-looking step toward sustainability,” adds Christoph Telker, Managing Director of DLH.
The lease agreement was brokered by the global real estate services provider CBRE. Tobias Heine, Director of Industrial & Logistics Hamburg at CBRE, serves the Maersk Group in Northern Germany and emphasizes: “The collaboration during the lease negotiations was highly professional and goal-oriented at every level. The conclusion of the lease agreement during a tight market phase marked by rising rents, limited land availability, and planning challenges regarding construction timelines and costs demonstrates the trusting and effective cooperation among all project stakeholders.”
A long-term lease agreement with Fischereihafen Betriebs GmbH and the Bremen tax authority for a plot of land measuring approximately 140,000 m² has already been signed by DLH, and the building permit application has been submitted to the relevant authorities.
DLH received legal advice from REIUS Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaft mbB in Hamburg.
